The Snake Plant, commonly referred to as “Mother-in-Law’s Tongue,” has a rather playful name. However, given that I have the most wonderful mother-in-law, I personally avoid using this nickname for the plant!
The Snake Plant is incredibly low-maintenance and rewarding to grow. I’ve successfully propagated it in water, and it’s a joy to watch it grow, in fact, I’ve enjoyed gifting the extra plants to friends.
While this plant offers numerous benefits, such as filtering indoor air, removing harmful pollutants, is especially effective for those with allergies, it’s important to note that it is toxic to both humans and animals if ingested.
Known for its drought tolerance, the Snake Plant thrives with minimal water. It’s best to water only when the top two inches of soil are dry, ensuring that any excess water drains completely. During the winter months, water sparingly, just enough to keep the leaves firm. Be cautious of overwatering, as this can lead to root rot.
